Wine & Roses
presented by The News Tribune will transform the Rose Garden at the
Emerald Queen Casino Taste of Tacoma presented by Click! Cable TV into an upscale wine-tasting event! Wine connoisseurs at the Taste will
have the opportunity to taste wines from over 10 nation-wide
wineries. The
great line-up of wineries for 2008 is still being put together, and so
far includes include Maryhill Winery, Barefoot, Rusty Grape, Saint Laurent, Terra Blanca,
Revelry Vintners, Stinas Cellars, Hoodsport and Samson Estates Winery. For $15, guests will receive a wine glass and five
tastes. Additional tastes are avaliable for $2 each, and wine is
also sold by the glass and by the bottle.
This year, the Rose Garden will see some familiar faces as six former
Tacoma mayors and the current mayor lend a hand behind the pouring
tables. The former mayors, plus current Mayor Baarsman, will be
on hand to pour and chat with guests from 5- 8 p.m. on Friday
evening. Scheduled to appear are Doug Sutherland (1982 – 1989),
Karen Vialle (1990 – 1993), Harold G. Moss (1994 – 1995), Brian
Ebersole (1996 – 2000), Mike Crowley (2001) and Bill Baarsma (2002 –
2008).
Former Tacoma Mayor and
Speaker of the House Brian Ebersole noted, “As mayors of Tacoma we did
not always agree on all the issues, but we certainly all agree to unite
and support our vital and beautiful park system. Our parks have given
us the opportunity to reunite and serve the broader community in a
meaningful and productive way. After all, great cities are made by
great parks. What better way to make a difference in every person’s
life then to come together in support of our parks. Plus it’s a heck of
a lot of fun!”
Enjoy a
wonderful meal while sipping wine and taking in the beauty of the
landscape! Joeseppi's Italian Ristorante will be serving up their
famous Chop Chop salad and tortellini right next to the wine
tasting. Joeseppi's won the award for Best Entree (3rd place) at
the Taste in 2006, so you'll want to be sure to see what all the
excitment is about!
The Rose Garden features an enclosed area landscaped with many
fragrant rose bushes, well-kept walking paths and a trio of gazebos. Proceeds from Wine & Roses support
Metro Parks Foundation’s efforts to improve the quality of parks,
playgrounds and recreation programs for the benefit of all. The
Foundation's mission is as follows: "The Metro Parks Foundation is a
private, nonprofit organization that promotes financial support to
enhance parks and recreation programs and capital projects.” Wine & Roses is also
sponsored by News Talk 710 KIRO.
Visitors to the
Rose Garden will also enjoy the smooth sounds of the DEX/98.9 KWJZ Stage, featuring jazz singles, duos and trios all weekend
long.
